Dora G. Lichtenberger

July 21, 1929 - September 10, 2022
Dora G. Lichtenberger, age 93, passed away peacefully at her residence in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 10, 2022. She was born in San Diego, Texas, on July 21, 1929, to Fidencio E. and Angela Gonzalez. Dora was raised in San Diego, Texas, and graduated from San Diego High school in 1946.  She continued her education at Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1950.

Dora met the love of her life, Rodolfo Lichtenberger, in 1951 and married in 1952. They made their home in Freer, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Dora was a devout Catholic and a St. Mary’s Catholic Church member in Freer, Texas.

She was a dynamic educator starting her career as a teacher in San Diego, Texas. Dora continued her teaching career in Freer, Texas, as she started a Kindergarten School with the church's assistance. Her excellent teaching skills and love of children soon was known by all.  Dora made inroads by becoming Freer Elementary's first Hispanic school teacher in the Benavides Independent School District. She taught for over 22 years before retiring. 

Dora was a 46-year member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Texas State Organization, Area 5, Beta Pi Chapter, where she continued making a difference in the field of education, and was awarded the Beta Pi Chapter Golden Award.
